Olympic Studios

Olympic Studios is at 117 Church Road in Barnes, south-west London. Decca moved its Olympic Studios from Baker Street to Barnes in 1964. Many artists recorded here including the Rolling Stones, the Troggs, the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin. While the Small Faces were recording Itchycoo Park, Traffic were in the neighbouring studio recording their debut album, Dear Mr Fantasy. Marriott also supplied backing vocals for the Rolling Stones' In Another Land from Their Satanic Majesties Request which was recorded here.

Itchycoo Park was the first time that phasing had been used. The studio engineer George Chkiantz created the effect by running two tape recorders but at different speeds.

The Small Faces moved here after signing the deal with Immediate and became much more of a studio band rather than a live act. They were given almost unlimited studio time and benefited from having the top studio engineer, Glyn Johns, working at Olympic.
