The Beatles - On Air Live at the BBC Volume 2 |
||
|
The Beatles Live at the BBC was released as a double CD in 1994. 19 years later, a second double CD of tracks that the Beatles recorded live at the BBC has been released. The original double CD has also been re-released alongside a set which includes both volumes in one box. The Beatles appeared on BBC Radio many times in the early years of their career when they were becoming household names, indeed worldwide household names, but still retained an air of innocence. Alongside the wide range of songs, there are between song snippets of conversation and four lengthy interviews with members of the group. These interviews and spoken parts between songs are essential to provide context and to show the closeness of the Beatles with the BBC as well as their own characters. The songs are a mix of Lennon/McCartney originals and cover versions. Although John and Paul were already being noted for their talent as songwriters they had come from a background of playing a wide range of covers in Liverpool and Hamburg and their early LPs, A Hard Day's Night excepted, saw many of these cover versions reaching vinyl where they sat comfortably alongside the Lennon/McCartney songs. Indeed, the breadth of style from rock & roll to country and easy listening was reflected in the variety in their own compositions and the consequent strength of John Lennon and Paul McCartney as songwriters. Although many of the covers have been released previously as studio recorded versions many of the tracks included here recorded at the BBC have not previously been released as Beatles tracks. Some tracks previously appeared on the Live at The Star Club LP the release of which Apple tried to block. To be completed Release Date: November 2013 Apple Records Track Listing: Disc One (Conversations in italics)
