The Searchers- The Very Best of the Searchers |
||
The Searchers were one of the most popular groups to come out of Liverpool during the 1960s. While they may not have been ground-breaking like the Beatles, they certainly released a string of excellent singles with the trademark jangly guitar sound. This compilation brings together the best of their work including their UK hits. The influence of the Searchers is clearly evident in bands like the Byrds and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers while Bruce Springsteen regularly covered When You Walk in the Room. Sweets for my Sweet gave the band its breakthrough with a UK number 1. Sugar & Spice and Needles & Pins continued in a similar vein with a catchy lyric and the simple but effective guitar riffs. 1964's Don't Throw Your Love Away showed that the Searchers could also handle slow ballads. The Searchers achieved fourteen hits in the UK between 1963 and 1966. Unlike the Beatles, most of the Searchers hits were not written by group members. The list of writers ranges from Jagger/Richards (Take it or Leave It), Sonny Bono/Jack Nitzsche (Needles and Pins) and Jackie de Shannon (When You Walk in the Room). Add to this cover versions such as Solitaire, Twist & Shout and Money. Release Date: May 2008 Universal Essential Tracks:
