British Beat Groups of the 1960s
Book Review: The Who Maximum RnB by Richard Barnes |
September 1998 |
The Who Maximum RnB was first published in 1982 with a free flexidisc of Pete Townshend demo recordings. The second edition was released in 1996. Richard Barnes is a close friend of Pete Townshend and hence has an inside view of the world's greatest ever rock band. (Surely no debate needed here!!) Maximum RnB is taken from the famous poster advertising the band's residency at the Marquee Club, then in London's Oxford Street. It is a definitive archive of Who material with many black & white and colour photos. The book follows the career of the Who from early beginnings of the individual members through days as the Detours and High Numbers up to the stadium rock, Live Aid and later reunions. It contains personal stories of life with the Who. This review to be extended when the second edition arrives. mp, August 1998 |
